This baked chicken with tomato sauce is juicy, cheesy, and bursting with flavors!  And, it’s easy to make.  Only 10 minutes of prep and 30 minutes of baking.  It’s the best recipe for busy weekdays!  The saucy chicken topped with melted Mozzarella cheese will add a variety to your family dinner menu!

Unlike my original recipe of using jarred pasta or marinara sauce on a rushing-to-get-dinner-on-the-table kind of day, this recipe uses a tomato sauce made from scratch. We are only adding 5 extra minutes of cooking time in this recipe, and honestly, it’s well worth it when you get a beautiful, rich sauce soaking into your chicken breasts to make them that much more succulent and tasty.

Instructions:

  1. First, Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. Second, Add chicken breasts to the casserole dish.
  3. Next, Season chicken breasts with Italian seasoning and salt.
  4. Top each chicken breast with sliced mushrooms.
  5. Pour marinara sauce evenly over the chicken.
  6. Top with shredded Mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake, uncovered, for 25-30 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through. Broil for the last 4 minutes if desired.
